The HBO documentary film “SAVING PELICAN 895” will be shown on November 18th at the Louisiana State Arboretum.
“Saving Pelican 895″ is a 40 minute documentary filmed in the wake of last year’s catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and will be shown on Friday, November 18th, at 6:00pm.
Directed by Academy-Award nominee Irene Taylor Brodsky (HBO’s “The Final Inch” and “Hear and Now”) the film is the story of the 895th pelican to be rescued and rehabilitated by a dedicated team of wildlife experts and everyday people, many of whom travel the world responding to oil disasters. This tale of a single bird, and the compassionate people deployed to save it, shows how the process of saving one life restored a degree of humanity for the rest of us.
Michael Carloss, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries biologist, will be on hand to introduce the film and answer questions after the film. Carloss played a major role for LDWF in assisting in the filming, coordination, information gathering, etc. for the HBO documentary film and appears in the film. He was involved with the capture of hundreds of oiled birds as well as the coordination and participation in the release of rehabbed birds. For those of you that missed this HBO documentary when it aired in April, this is an excellent opportunity to view the film and talk to a biologist that was heavily involved in the clean up and rescue of wildlife.
