VILLE PLATTE – The Office of State Parks announces that, effective Monday, January 31, Chicot Lake and the boat launches of Chicot State Park’s East and South Landings are open to the public.
The lake was drawn down in September, for the Dept. of Transportation & Development (DOTD) to perform routine bridge inspection and repairs during the first two weeks of October. Recent rains have raised the water levels enough to allow boats back on the lake; however, boaters are advised to maneuver cautiously.
The boat landing at the park’s North Landing will remain closed until further notice, as the water is still too low for safe boating.
Chicot State Park, located six miles north of Ville Platte on La. 3042, covers over 6,000 acres of rolling hills and a 2,000-acre reservoir. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information on the site, visit http://www.lastateparks.com or call 1-877-677-2442 toll free or 363-2503 locally.
